Hey PPAers, welcome to a new semester here at UH! Our first general spring meeting is on Wednesday, January 25th at 6PM in Science and Engineering Classroom 100. Our guest speaker is Dr. Christina Cattley, Executive Team Leader Pharmacist with Target Corporation. Five new volunteering sign ups have been added to the Events page, and if you are signed up for the 10th Annual Rockets Run 2012, don’t forget it is this Saturday, January 21, 2012. UHCOP PharmCAS deadline!

UH Pre-Pharmacy Cougars,

Please be aware of an important deadline change for University of Houston College of Pharmacy. The official deadline is changing from January 5, 2012 to February 1, 2012. PharmCAS will continue to accept applications for UHCOP until February 1st.

APPLY EARLY! It is encouraged to e-submit your application at least 3 weeks ahead of the institutional deadline. You may submit your application for University of Houston College of Pharmacy at any time before the deadline, but it is encouraged that you submit early to avoid heavy web-congestion which will occur as the deadline nears.

11/21 Social Sign Up!

Hey PPAers! The semester is almost over so it’s time for another social! The theme is “Fall and Winter” so we encourage everyone to dress up for holiday events such as Thanksgiving or Christmas! We want to see pilgrims, indians, elves, and maybe even a few santas!

This will be another potluck event, so please view the sign up sheet here first and then fill out the sign-up link located below. We don’t want to have too many of a particular dish or only have desserts at the party! (: Also, turkeys will be provided by UHPPA, so don’t fret!

Date: Monday, November 21, 2011
Time: 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM
Location: Calhoun sky loft
What to wear: Elf, Pilrgim, or Indian Costume! (PPA shirt is not required and will not be rewarded points)

How to get points:
1 point – attending
1 point – dressing up (santa, elf, indian, or pilgrim)
1 point – side dish
2 points – entree

We will be also playing games and other activities including.. White Elephant! We are setting the budget for the gifts to be a minimum of $10 dollars.

Gameplay Rules – Thanks to wikipedia!

Gifts are typically inexpensive, humorous items or used items from home.

The most popular version of the White Elephant rules allows any number of participants. However, it is recommended that the number of participants be at least six. Each participant is asked to bring a gift worth no more than a pre-agreed upon amount (sometimes nothing as explained later).

To determine the gift-choice play order, participants may draw numbers from a hat. Starting with one and up to the total number of participants, the players take turn in the corresponding succession.

Once an order has been established, each person takes his or her turn choosing a gift. The first person picks a gift, opens it, and shows it to the rest of the company. Then in turn, the participants choose to either unwrap a new gift or to “steal” a previously unwrapped gift. If a gift is “stolen”, the person who had their gift taken from them gets to unwrap any unopened gift; and then, the turn passes. When all the gifts have been opened, the game is over. This variant is usually used for large groups of people (25+).

NASA Astronaut to UH!

Hear NASA Astronaut Shannon Walker discuss living, working and doing scientific research in space for five months on the International Space Station.

Walker will present UH and the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics with a poster flown in space commemorating her mission and paying tribute to her father, NSM’s founding dean, R. Hugh Walker.

Topic: “Long Duration Space Flight: Preparing for and Living on the International Space Station”

When: Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011

3 pm – 3: 50 pm

Where: UH Science & Engineering Classroom (SEC), Room 100 (Building 529)

Members will receive one (1) point for attending and one (1) point for wearing the PPA t-shirt!

Halloween Social Reminder

Hey PPAers! Don’t forget to come out to our Halloween Social with AMPS this Friday located at Calhoun Lofts’ Skylofts from 6:00PM – 10:00PM. It is a potluck, so please remember to bring a dish to share among other PPA and AMPS members.

To get an idea of what people are bringing to the potluck, please fill in our online form located here. (You may view the responses here.)

There will be games, prizes, music, and a costume contest so let’s see your most unique and creative costumes! Please keep in mind that this a school event, so try to keep your costumes appropriate.

*As this is a social, no points will be rewarded for those wearing a PPA t-shirt.
*Members who attend the social will receive 1 point for coming AND an additional 2 points for coming in costume!
*Points awarded for Potluck food items will vary between 1-2 points, depending on how many people your dish will feed or market value!
