Events

Important:

Some events may have limited volunteer spots available so be sure to register early!  Registration is “first come, first served.”

Please make sure you enter a valid email when filling out the registration form. If the confirmation email sent to the listed email is returned, the registration will be voided. In case of limited event, the slot will go to the next person.

If you cannot stay for the entire volunteer event, please DO NOT sign up.

Half the amount of points gained for participating will be deducted for every no-show at events that require registration.  To avoid this, please remember to send a cancellation email to uofhppa@gmail.com at least 72 hours before the event if you cannot participate.

Intramural Sports

February Bake Sale
Hey PPA members, we are having another bake sale to help fund our organization for meetings, socials, prizes, and end of the year banquet! For this bake sale we will be selling hot dogs, donuts, nachos, chips, drinks, lemonade, and fried rice. If anyone is interested in helping out or just want to donate please sign up as soon as possible!

Points: 2 points per shift & 1 additional point for wearing PPA t-shirt

You may only sign up for one (1) shift.  Limited to the first 12 volunteers to sign up! After 12 will be wait listed.

PPA Bake Sale Donations – Click here to view donation list.
Email uofhppa@gmail.com with subject line “Attn: Treasurer Bake Sale Donations Sign Up.” Include your Name, PeopleSoft ID, and up to four (4) items you would like to donate.

Each member will receive one point per two goods donated, but $5 cash donations are one point each!  ie. If you sign up for four non-cash donations, then you will get 2 points. If you sign up for four $5 donations, then you will get the max 4 points.

PPA Bake Sale Poster Boards
As before we are looking for creative members to create posters for our bake sale! On a standard size poster board, create a sign for our members to hold using markers, paints, glitter, construction board, anything! Be sure to include your effort because the poster board will be a reflection of our organization – so make something you are proud of!

Key points to include: PPA or Pre-Pharmacy Association Bake Sale, homemade/catered products (fried rice) and other food items being sold (hot dogs, donuts, nachos, chips, drinks, lemonade).

Each poster will be rewarded 1 point. Spots are limited to the first 8 to sign up. 

Please do NOT sign up if you do NOT plan on placing effort into your poster.

Children’s Museum of Houston
Date: Saturday, March 3rd, 2012
Time: 10AM – 2PM and 2PM – 6PM (Limit ONE shift per member)
Location: 1500 Binz Houston, TX 77004
Points: 4 points per shift, 1 point for PPA t-shirt, 1 point for drivers
What to wear: PPA T-shirt and jeans/shorts with tennis shoes

Carpool for the first shift will meet at the UC Circle at 9:00 AM and will leave at 9:30 AM. Second shift will meet at the UC Circle at 1:00 PM and will leave at 1:30 PM.

Group volunteers will have a chance to interact with visitors, assist staff in the action-
packed exhibits and help out museum hardworking administrative! We had a lot of fun
last semester at the Children’s Museum and hope you can join us for this event! There
are only 25 spots available, please sign up early.

AIDS Walk Houston
Date: Sunday, March 11th, 2012
Location: Sam Houston Park Downtown
Points: AM Greeters (3) or Finish Line Greeters (2), 1 point for PPA t-shirt, 1 point for drivers (Limit one shift per member)
What to wear: PPA T-shirt and jeans/shorts with tennis shoes
Carpool for the first shift will meet at the UC Circle at 6:00 AM and will leave at 6:30 AM. Second shift will meet at the UC Circle at 9:00 AM and will leave at 9:30 AM.

AM Greeters (3 points) 7 AM – 10:30 AM

Will greet walker as they enter into the park from the street and also will be positioned near the parking garages to direct walkers of where to park. Will also use two to three greeters for the EMC breakfast

Finish Line Greeters (2 points) 10 AM – 12 PM

Cheer walkers back into the park and hand out drinks to them

Individual Projects

You may earn up to 10 points volunteering for any non-profit organization, hospitals, or the Houston Food Bank for each school year.

To get PPA points:

You will need to turn in an official letter from the Houston Food Bank or the organization stating the hours that you volunteer. We will award 1 PPA point for every hour (10 points maximum per school year).

The letter can be handed to the Vice President at general meetings or drop off at PPA mailbox in the Center for Student Involvement (CSI) in University Center underground.

**NEW** Cougar Trading Cards

Cougar cards are Trading Cards of important people associated with the University of Houston.  There are 58 of them!  After collecting all 58 cards, you get a $1000 scholarship!  1 point will be given for every 10 cards that are collected and registered.  A maximum of 6 total points will be awarded for the entire academic school year.  Points will be awarded at the end of each semester.

You must register your cards at the Cougar Card Office in Fleming Room 138 AND sign up to receive points.
